What’s the best present you can give to a footballer on their birthday? A goal.
Tammy Abraham has been enjoying himself since returning to Chelsea to lead Frank Lampard’s line, and added another goal to his already impressive tally against Lille in the Champions League last night.
The 22-year-old has now scored eight times in ten appearances this term.
It’s hard to deny that Abraham deserves it. As Rio Ferdinand quite rightly pointed out (via Metro), the forward has gone through the typical Chelsea loan trauma to get where he is today. He’s spent time with a faltering Premier League club in Swansea, dropped down to play with the mighty Bristol City and had a huge hand in helping Aston Villa achieve Premier League promotion.

As if it were meant to be, the up and coming star scored in the 22nd minute on his 22nd birthday to hand the Blues the lead on their first away journey since returning to Europe’s premium competition. And it was all thanks to fellow youngster Fikayo Tomori, whose perfectly floated ball put it on a plate with a candle on top.
